Abstract
A large eddy simulation is applied to the turbulent flows in the circular and elliptic pipes. In this research a combined grid technique was adopted; a couple of grids on the different curvilinear coordinates were alternatively used for the calculations of the momentum equations and the SGS model terms, in order to reduce the numerical error. Primary features of the circular pipe flows with and without the rotation were correctly predicted, including the profiles of the mean velocity and the turbulent intensities. In case of the elliptic section pipe, a secondary flow caused by the turbulence effect could be also captured. 1 Introduction A large eddy simulation(LES) is a promising method for the analysis of turbulence which contains three
