Abstract
The pilot ignition of solid PMMA within a cone calorimeter is modelled using a three-dimensional numerical model. A transient model for the solid PMMA degradation is included. Irradiation levels from the cone are varied to examine the resultant effect on the predicted pilot-ignition times and the results are compared to experimental data. Introduction Two-dimensional numerical models for polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) combustion have been developed by researchers such as Fernandez-Pello and Williams [1], Sibulkin et al. [2], Kodama et al. [3], and Amos and Fernandez- Pello [4]. More recently, Di Blasi et al. [5] have developed a detail
