Abstract
The paper presents the investigation performed during the design of an electrically heated marble plate used for room heating. Numerical analysis and optimization of the plate is performed in order to achieve optimal plate geometry and uniform temperature distribution, to avoid damage of the plate caused by thermal stresses and to investigate the possibilities of energy cost savings by storing heat in a plate with increased mass. A dynamic numerical model of an electrically heated plate is developed and presented. The finite volume method is used to solve the set of differential equations for thermal diffusion. Boundary conditions were achieved numerically for the case of the heat transfer by radiation and convection, with airflow induced by natural convection in a heated room. Original software is developed
