Abstract
We present fully 3D calculations for time dependent processes in high temperature furnaces. A mixed finite element approach is used for the coupled simulation of heat conduction in the massive parts of the furnace and heat radiation between its surfaces. The view factors are calculated by the hemicube method and the visibility between surface patches is determined using the z-buffer of the graphics card. The 3D results are compared in an rotational symmetric setting with two-dimensional simulations.
