Abstract
We analyze transport properties of fluidlsolid and solid/solid composites containing finite arrays of closely spaced rigid inclusions when a host medium is either an elastic matrix or an incompressible fluid. We introduce simple inodels where the number of the inclusions and the synln~etry of a periodicity cell are chosen in such a way so that properties of the composites can be investigated analytically. Despite their simplicity, the models capture the essential physical characteristics of densely packed composites. For various applied loads and shapes of (polydisperse) inclusions we demonstrate
