Abstract

Microcracking response of CFRP composites at different temperatures H. ~aftchenari' and ~ . ~ a r v a n i - ~ a r a h a n i ~ '~epartment of Mechanical Engineering, University of Guilan, Rasht, Iran 2 Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Industrial Engineering, Ryerson University, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Abstract In the present work a series of tests were performed on tubular CFRP specimens with different winding angles. A plastic liner was used to study its effect on the performance of the tubes. Lined and unlined specimens were loaded to different load levels of about 40%, 60% and 80% of their burst strength. Each time, the test was stopped when the required load value was reached. Suitable samples were taken from the gauge length of the tubes close to the strain gauge positions. The samples were cut in two directions, along and perpendicular to the fibre direction and placed under microscope where they could be examined along and traverse to the cut section.
