Abstract
This work reports on numerical study of mixed convection thermohydraulic behaviour in vertical pipe flows, when a temperature step is imposed at the entrance. The governing equations are solved using finite difference explicit scheme. The results show that a strong difference in the temporal distributions of velocity and temperature profiles according as the inlet temperature step is positive or negative with the possibility of recirculating flow near the wall in the case of positive steps, and reverse flow in the central region for negative steps. These lead to laminar flow instabilities.
