Abstract
An evaluation of volumetric corrosion measurement methodology M. R. Collingwood,* & S. G. Keened *A-Scan Laboratories, Inc. Huntington Beach, CA. USA ~The Boeing Company CA. USA. Abstract Accurate mapping of corrosion damage is essential for any system operating in a corrosive environment. This is true even more so in the case of airframe structures. Traditional methods of nondestructive measurement of corrosion have been limited in their ability to provide quantitative results. This paper will present recent efforts in the development of a methodology to accurately measure or quantify the amount of metal loss due to corrosion activity and its application to corrosion control of metallic structure on transport aircraft. 1 Introduction Conforming sealants and coatings are used on aircraft structural assemblies primarily to protect against corrosion. These coatings or sealants produce appropriate levels of sealing while containing corrosion inhibitors, such as he
