Abstract
Three dimensional numerical simulation of thermal convection in a Czochralski melt D. Vizman*, J. Friedrictr* and G. Miiller^ ^Department of Physics, West University ofTimisoara, Romania ^Institute for Materials Science WW VI, University Erlangen-Niirnberg, Germany ^Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS-B, Erlangen, Germany Abstract Numerical investigations were carried out, in order to predict the oscilla- tory convection of a mercury melt induced by natural convection and forced comvection due to crucible rotation in a Czochralski model configuration. The predicted thermal field is found to be in close agreement to the reported experimental observation of the thermal field and the temperature fluctu- ations in the melt. The governing equations were numerically solved using the code STHAMAS 3D, based on a block-structured finite-volume Navier- Stokes solver, developed in our institute for high p erf or mace computing.
