Abstract
The punching shear strength at the slab-column connections is usually critical for flat-slab structure design. The use of randomly distributed polypropylene fibres as shear reinforcement has been investigated and were shown to offer a practical alternative. One-third scaled slab-column connections were cast and tested. Numerical models were then setup to simulate the load-deflection curves of fibrous slabs. These models were found to give a reasonably accurate approximation of the curves and also give a good indication of the cracking behavior of the slabs reinforced with fibres. 1 Introduction The combined effect of bending moments and high shear forces at the slab connection with the columns can cause a brittle and catastrophic punching sh
