Abstract
This paper describes the modeling methodology on composite interphase, which takes the interfacial region into consideration and deals with tensile and shear moduli for the region independently. From in-situ SEM observation results by the embedded single fiber transverse tensile test, it has been revealed that the fiber surface treatment conditions have an influence on the generation and propagation of the interfacial debonding and matrix cracking around a single fiber. Damage simulation in this test is carried out by a finite element analysis. Hoffman's failure criterion is used for a judgment of damage in the interphase and the matrix.
