Abstract
To understand the failure phenomena at notches and cracks in ductile metals under cyclic plastic deformation, the micromechanical damage process by micro-voids is studied. Axisymmetrical unit cells are exposed to several load cycles under fixed triaxiality of the stress state. The deformation and the development of the void volume fraction are studied in dependence on matrix hardening type initial void volume fraction and stress triaxiality. The results show that after a few cycles a non-symmetric stationary mesoscopic cyclic stress-strain curve is established. In most cases the void volume is incrementally increasing with the load cycles and approaches a final
