Abstract
A crack growing perpendicular to an interface of a bimaterial. where the material partners have equal elastic but different plastic properties is discussed by a extension of Dugdale's crack model. The transition of the yield stress from material 1 to material 2 occurs in an interlayer with a finite thickness. The plastic zone size and the crack tip opening displacement is calculated in dependence on the applied stress intensity for both crack growth directions, soft- hard and hard-soft arrangement Analytical results are obtained for the simpler soft-hard case where the plastic zone always forms a single connected region In the hard-soft arrangement it occurs t
