Abstract
The deceleration dynamics and tnbology of a high speed rotor system are studied. The rotor is vertical and normally supported by magnetic bearings. In emergencies it is stopped upon retainer bearings. Feasible tribological material pairs are tested by simulation for selecting the best ones for field tests. Dynamic behaviour of the rotor bearing system is studied using analytical modelling and simulation solution and also using a multibody 3D dynamics program. The selected specimens are experimentally tested and the wear
