Prom the physical point of view it is important to use an appropriate description of the surface roughness and to take account of the rolling condition because this differs significantly from static contact. As a first approach a two dimensional model of a wheel running with constant velocity over an infinite elastic strip is investigated. Because of the necessity to use a dense mesh in the contact
