Abstract

Some definite parameters was used in the technique of electrical discharge strengthening and the surface residual stress was measured by X-ray diffraction method. The results show the both the magnitude and the sign of residual stress of the surface are affected by the thermal stress, the phase change of metal and the machining parameters. If processed by rational multiple steps from high capacity to the low, compressive residual stress can be achieved. 1 Introduction The wear resistant surface, especially those under cyclic loading conditions will be sensitive to residual stresses due to the preceding strengthening process.
