Abstract
The fatigue lives are different at the same nominal stress amplitude depending on the cross sectional shape of a specimen. This difference is caused by the difference in the crack growth rate. In the present study, plane bending fatigue tests were carried out on specimens with a small blind hole and smooth specimens having round or square cross sections of an annealed 0.42% carbon steel in order to investigate the influence of the cross sectional shape of a specimen on the crack growth rate and an evaluation method of fatigue lives among smooth specimens having different cross sections. 1.Introduction The fatigue strength is influe
