Abstract
Integral water management strenghtens the need to integrate modelling tools in a generic framework. This paper describes such a framework for integrated hydraulic modelling, called SIMON A. 1 Introduction Roughly half of the Netherlands is below sea level. Therefore water man- agement has always been and still is of great importance for the Dutch gov- ernment. Protection against flooding, (ground)water regulation and land reclamation for example have a long history in the Netherlands. Recently, however, the government has changed its policy with respect to water management. No longer the management of water quantity is only of importance, management of the water quality has to be considered too. This means that the development of constructions like storm surge barriers
