Abstract
The hydraulic design of an integrated wastewater collection, treatment and disposal scheme involves a variety of design methods. In addition, there is frequently a need to innovate in order to adapt to the problems of particular projects. The suitability of design techniques is dependant on the problem, and it is often necessary to compare solutions from two or more methods in order to validate designs. The paper focuses on the hydraulic design methods employed on a major civil engineering project for North West Water Limited. The background to the scheme is described and the design restrictions are identified. Different hydraulic design methods are compared for individual sections of the project, identifying where specialist hydraulic studies are of real economic benefit. In conclusion, the fi
