Abstract
In this paper the modelling methods for the electricity transmission system, failure analysis and reliability estimation are considered. The main purpose of this work is to develop practical modelling methods and software for transmission system reliability estimation and analysis. The reliability indices for transmission system evaluation are analysed. Keywords: electricity transmission system, Monte Carlo simulation, reliability analysis. 1 Introduction Power systems are one of the main infrastructures. Blackouts of these systems have major direct and indirect consequences on the economy and national security. Quantitative reliability estimation is being recognized as necessary and is becoming feasible in the planning of electric power systems [1]. The improvement in the electricity system reliability level usually leads to increase in investment cost. Thus, as in each country, the reliability evaluation of electricity transmission system in Lithuania is also considered by transmission system operator and scientific research organizations in Lithuania. The Lithuanian power system consists of the following parts: the power generation facilities (Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant and four Thermal Power Plants), the transmission system operator (Lietuvos Energija AB) and the
