Abstract
By imitating the way that nature builds up thermodynamically stable layers to protect certain metals against corrosion, we can enhance the qualities of these metals and keep them in good condition during service. An algorithmic procedure that we have designed/implemented to facilitate/modify the natural process of passivation, can support/improve human expertise and provide the necessary information (by means of a Knowledge Base built ad hoc) for increasing effectiveness. Nevertheless, it is also proved that the higher the passivation achieved by increasing protective layer thickness, the higher the breakdown
