Abstract
Ostrava was the biggest industrial city in the North of Moravia. Its development was based on heavy industry and coal mining. Coal mines were closed and heavy industry was depressed in the 1990s. Completely (or at least partly) abandoned areas comprise about 7% of the area of the city. A promising idea of future use is a basis for the first step of successful regeneration or revitalisation of these special areas. Most of the brownfields have been designated for a new industrial use in the master plan of Ostrava without more detailed analysis of the resulting efficiency. The model presented here is focused on the areas left after coal mining. The model is divided into three independent parts. The first of them is focused on light industry. The second part is focused on possible housing use
