Abstract
The coke plant in Bakar started operation in 1978 and after a great number of negative environmental impacts the Government of the Republic of Croatia issued an official decree of its closure. Complete dismantling of plant components was going on from 1994 to 2001. In that period all plant components were dismantled except for the stack and the underwater part of the tunnel for coal transport. In order to establish the state of the environment following the dismantling of processing equipment of the coke plant in Bakar, systematic on-site researches were performed. During preliminary research, soil sampling was performed to assess the actual type, level and volume of contamination.
