Abstract
Hydraulic optimisation of the flow pattern in a fixed bed activated carbon adsorber W. Summary A numerical model for the estimation of the flow pattern in a fixed bed activated carbon adsorber, with respect to the KSVA-procedure, is presented. This tool allows the calculation of a potential distribution and of streamlines with respect to different boundary conditions and in this way an optimisation of the velocity field for a given purpose. With the help of a graphic output the flow pattern can be determined. The computed results were checked by the means of a) direct measurement of pressure, flow and effluent rates at a pilot column of the KSVA procedure, b) an electrical analog model, and c) hydraulic 1:1 experiments using colour injections into the sand bed of a geometrically similar "sector-model". All experiments and models were in a good
