It is demonstrated that an indirect approach may correlate the laser pulse backscattered intensity to the density and height of vegetation. This method for ecological parameter evaluation by using vegetation indexes is discussed. A miniature diode lidar is also presented as a natural detriment indicator for tree height profiling and forest biomass es
