Abstract

Abstract Soil erosion and transport in the watershed area, which are the main source of reservoir sedimentation and affect the reservoir by reducing the lifespan and capacity, are the most important items of watershed management. Due to difficulty of data collection, empirical formulas are commonly used to estimate the sediment yields. However, these estimations are far from accurate. Two different methods were used in this study to estimate the sediment yields in the watershed area. A numerical model, Hydrological Simulation Program Fortran (HSPF) developed by US EPA was first adopted. A large data set is needed to calibrate and verify the model.
