Abstract

Drenaj problems and floods in the Adapazari plain M. Uludag Department of Geography, Balikesir University, Turkey. Abstract Serious flood problems due to both physical geography conditions such as geomorphologic, hydrographic and clirnatologic factors, and land use features have occured in the Adapazari Plain (Notrhwest Turkey) from time to time. These problems are also noteworthy becouse of increases in their intensity and frequency paralel to changes in land use features. In this study, first of all, physical geographic causes of flooding in the Adapazari plain were determined. Also, by investigating land use and its seasonal characteristic changes, their role on floods have been tried to be found. The floods of the past have been evaluated by associating the relations between cause /result features and frequency lintensty values.
