Abstract Ths study determines the influence of morphometric parameters on the retention of nitrogen (N,J in rnanrnade reservoirs. The subjects of analysis were Two dam reservoirs of SE Poland, i.e. the Solina and Rzeszow reservoirs, for which nitrogen mass-balance calculations for 1999-2001 were carried out on the basis of parameters available in litt. The best relationship obtained was that between N retention and reservoir volume, and this was particularly marked in the case of the Rzeszow site. Lower values for correlation coefficients were found for the N,,-water retention time relationship, or for that with reservoir depth. Retention was seen to be greatest where water retention time was lowest, and smallest where exchanges of water are infrequent. The obtained r value for the correlation betw
