Abstract Ths paper presents two case studies on hydrodynamics and water quality downstream of dam-reservoirs. The first case is a segment of the river Lima (North Portugal), downstream of a dam mainly constructed for electric power production (Touvedo dam), and the second one is a Mondego river segment between the Aguieira and Raiva dams. In the first case, the ISIS FLOW program was used to simulate the hydrodynamics. This model also generates the necessary input data for the water quality simulation using another ISIS QUALITY program. ISIS FLOW is a computer program used to model open channel and overbank flows in any network of channels; it computes flow depths and discharges using a method based on the equations for shallow water waves
