Abstract
Modelling hydro-environmental processes in riverine systems R. Falconer, E. Harris, S. Kashefipour and B. Lin Environmental Water Management Research Centre,Cardiff University, UK Abstract Bathing water quality along the River Kibble and Fylde Coast presents many challenges in securing compliance with EC Bathing Water Directive mandatory standards. Significant investment by North West Water in sewerage schemes along the Fylde Coast has contributed to an improvement in water quality. However, designated bathing waters at the mouth of the Kibble Estuary continue to fail to comply with the EC Bathing Water Directive. Details are given herein of the development, application and verification of a linked hydrodynamic model for predicting the current structure and faecal coliform concentration distributions in the River Ribble and along the Fylde Coast. The modelling principles and data collection procedures are outlined, together with an overview of the dynamically-linked riverine and
