Abstract
An alternative to reduce the damage during earthquakes of the two-story adobe Peruvian traditional constructions is presented in this paper. A second story made of lightweight material, called quincha, is proposed for two story traditional constructions. The proposed system was study experimentally using the pseudodynamic test to verify its seismic behavior. From the experimental results it can be observed that the level of shear force at the base is reduced significantly, reducing, therefore, the risk of failure. On the other hand, the proposed system shows ductile behavior and significant energy dissipation by its vibration mode since the flexible second floor acts like a damper. 1 Introd
