Abstract
The Tasmanian agency responsible for strategic road transport infrastructure routinely collects pre-construction environmental information as part of the environmental approval process. In 1990 and 1991, it also began collecting broad scale data on the location and extent of remnant roadside vegetation of conservation value, and has since collected other roadside information such as habitat value and is currently surveying historic heritage. The implementation of an Oracle database with a Web browser interface has recently been completed to allow this data to be widely available within the organisation for environmental management and decisionmaking. The design incorporates biodiversity conservation and sustainability as the guiding objectives for the reporting and decision making functions of the database. Conservation
