Abstract
The paper focuses, in a non technical way, on a Decision Support System (DSS) called PRUS designed to deal with the integrated solid waste management planning at regional level. Urban waste management nowadays integrates environmental, economic and social aspects, therefore a multicriteria approach is needed to define appropriate strategies. PRUS visualises the waste plan as an integrated system of recollection, transportation, recovery and disposal activities. The DSS integrates a multi-objective dynamic mixed integer linear programming with an ad hoc interface. The model is characterized by a high flexibility and therefore can be used to simulate different scenarios; the user can modify the constraints and vary the parameters through ad hoc dialog-windows.
