Abstract
Dynamics of the urban plume in the Greater Madrid area under episodic conditions in winter M. Pujadas, B. Artiriano, J. Plaza, J. Teres Centra de Investigaciones Energeticas, Medioambientales y Tecnologicas (CIEMAT), SUMMARY During the last three years CIEMAT has carried out several field experiment studies focused on knowledge about physico-chemical behaviour of Madrid's urban plume during the winter. This paper intends to summarize the main results obtained in this experimental characterization up to the present. INTRODUCTION Southern european regions, and particularly the Iberian Peninsula, have, in general, quite different climatological characteristics from the rest of Europe. These general characteristics, short, soft winters and long, hot summers, are obviously modified depending on the local geographic and topographic features.
