Abstract
The spatial and temporal variability of the atmospheric deposition of saline elements was assessed by biomonitoring with lichens. Seven sampling stations were selected in the south-west coast of Portugal, disposed with increasing distances from the coast, and lichens were collected bimonthly during 48 months, starting in February 1994. Results show a seasonal pattern in the accumulation of saline elements, with higher values obtained after periods without rain events.
