Abstract
The area studied, in southwestern Sardinia (Italy) has been subjected to intensive mining activity over years which left numerous excavations both underground and on the surface, dumps and settling basins for the disposal of mineral waste. Today, such eyesores, characterizing the landscape, cause direct and indirect risks for people, animals and biotic environment.
