Abstract

The development of environmental indices for the analysis of environmental change needs tools that can evaluate interactions between, and cumulative impacts on, many resources at a time. The approach proposed in the article attempts to link the pressure-state-impact-response framework of indicators to the integrated environmental model, based on the method of response function (MRF). The proposed approach is illustrated with the example of Soil Carbon Persistence Index (SCPI). 1 Environmental indices and integrated modelling: theory Based on the definitions from Alfsen & Saebo [3] an environmental indicator is a number that refers to the state, response or the development of important aspects of the envi
