Abstract
A recently developped three layer photochemical dispersion model is applied to Thessaloniki. The simulation is performed for September 30, 1991, a day of the Thessaloniki 1991 Field Measurement Campaign. The model results show a good agreement with available observations. From the results it can be concluded that under meteorological conditions favouring pollutant accumulation, the air pollution levels in the centre of the city could approach existing air quality standards. Differently than carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides, which reach maximum values in the city centre, ozone levels are highest at locations in the periphery of the city. 1 Introduction
