Abstract
A study into possible health effects on children living in proximity to opencast coal mining is nearing completion. Simultaneous measurements of PMio paniculate matter, wind speed and direction, have been made in paired communities, over a 53-week period. Weekly PMio samples were collected simultaneously at each location. TEOM continuous monitors provided data on short-term (30-minute) fluctuations throughout the study period.
