Abstract
Particulate Matter (PM15) in the region of Cubatao, a Brazilian industrial city, was studied to quantify its strongest sources impacting at the Serra do Mar sierra and local tropical rain forest. Air pollution has been reported as the main factor of the local vegetation destruction. Coarse and fine PM15 concentrations were measured using staked filter units on two places: one at sea level, in the Moji Vale, close to the industrial complex (BOT), and the other in the Biological Reserve of Paranapiacaba, on the top of the sierra (TOP). Between July and September 1991, about 110 pairs of samples were collected concomitantly in each place, using night and day 12 h sampling periods.
