Abstract

The terms of ‘singularity’ and ‘uniqueness’ are mostly used interchangeably in development strategies to describe the prominence of cities. Establishing a special and singular city goes beyond the physical characteristics that constitute the important dimension of identity of a place. It is argued that social and cultural properties align with physical dimensions. Singularity is concerned with tangible and intangible aspects of urban form and city life. This paper aims to emphasise the concept of singularity through explaining its dimensions of tangible and intangible aspects of urban form and city life. The author reveals the conceptual framework of singularity through applying qualitative, quantitative, analytical and field methods.
