Abstract
A typical alluvial aquifer in the semi-arid region of Brazil is chosen for a two dimensional modelling and simulation. The aquifer is situated near the region of Santa Luzia in the state ofParaiba in the Northeast of Brazil. The alluvial deposit varies from 50 m to 400 m in breadth and 1m to 10 m in depth with an extension of about 5 km. The phreatic levels have been observed during various years since 1988. The finite difference method is employed for the calibration of the permeabilities and simulation of the phreatic levels. The influences of different boundary conditions and varying morphological properties have been evaluated in the process the simulation and the results are very promising. 1 Introduction The
