Abstract

Some of the guidelines applied to design and implement the core of a numerical model for river networks using the Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) approach are presented. After briefly defining a few OOP concepts, the pro- gressive building of the numerical model is outlined, and the inherent advantages of object-orientation are discussed. 1 Introduction Nowadays, Object-Oriented Programming (Stroustrup', Buzzi-Ferraris^) is successfully and increasingly used in information technology applications such as graphical user interfaces, business software or network applications. Some applications also exist in computational hydraulics (Ouazar et al.\ Hinckley et al*) but OOP still remains seldom used for de
