Abstract

As the practice of using natural marshland systems, in remote locations, for the treatment of contaminated water increases in popularity, the need to fully understand the pollution attenuation processes and migration potential of these pollutants is becoming primordial. However, the complex interaction between soil, plants and biological activity of such environment associated with an often ill defined hydrogeology severely challenges engineers and scientists in adequately forecasting the attenuation potential of natural marshlands. The Locksley marshland has been receiving leachate from the neighboring Alice and Fraser municipal landfill site since the early 1980'
