Abstract
Expert site assessment, based on field geochemical investigation, is the only possible method how to discover or how to monitor contaminated land and water pollution. In spite of this irreplaceable basic role for problem identification and evaluation, there is often more attention given to the successive (computational) elaboration of data or to the presentation of the final conclusions. The acquisition of relevant and reliable input information represents a complicated task which importance has to be highlighted as a vital part of the assessment.
