Abstract
A serious problem which happens very often in several torrid regions of the globe is the intermittence of natural channels. An usual scheme to attenuate this is pumping water from the underground to the channel. However, in spite of being a feasible policy, it does not avoid water from circulating back to the aquifer before being used for social and environmental purposes, due to the interaction between the aquifer and the channel. It is improbable that optimal strategies can be reached by downright simulation, but numerical simulation can be used to estimate the dependence of pumping rates, pump positions and their combination upon the performance of the scheme
