Abstract
Spatial information technology has emerged as a major growth industry over the last 5 to 10 years. It is proffered that spatial information technology has much to offer the resource management community but is not widely utilised. It is suggested that current software is confusing to the lay-user, presenting a barrier to its operational use. Such persons invariably turn to system administrators who soon become swamped with data requests. The development of a Task Orientated - Application of Spatial Information Systems Toolbox (TO-ASIST) is offered as a possible solution to this problem.
