Mecanica de Fluidos, Alda, Urkijo s/n, 48013 Bilbao, Spain ABSTRACT The analysis and control of a biological reactor is usually carried out inadequately, owing to lack of resources or apparent complexity of the whole process. The present work is based on the description of the algorithms and the use of the ADM model; this model, developed after empirical work in an anaerobic reactor at our laboratory, allows description of the reactor behaviour with a minimum number of variables. It represents a helpful tool for that working with anaerobic biological reactors in order to optimize production of methane and the quality of the treated wastewaters. 1.
