Abstract
A cooperative effort is being developed presently in Sao Paulo State to prepare both the State Environmental Agency (CETESB) and the National Petroleum Company (Petrobras) for more efficient clean-up strategies and actions. Two state universities (USP and UNICAMP) participate in this work. It is one of the subprojects of a greater effort for the creation of an official manual for organizing protection and cleaning activities, in the case of accidental oil spills. A mathematical model is presented, justified and a numerical scheme for obtaining and exhibiting approximate solutions is presented. Two simulations in the Sao Sebastiao Channel region, in Sao Paulo, Brazil are discussed. 1 Introduction Over the last tw
