Abstract

A review of three-dimensional hydrodynamic models is presented along with a description of basic equations and of the latest trends in the development of numerical methods. Methodology for coupling hydrodynamic models with mass transport models into complete water quality models is described, the main problem being the different time and space scales of hydrodynamic models and mass transport models. 11ntroduction The use of water quality models (WQM) is reaching an extremely important position. Firstly, clean water is becoming more and more precious, and on the other hand we are becoming aware that there is no "clean water", in fact we are always trying to reduce levels of pollution at the lowest possible expense. This demands a lot of model simulations to find the best trade-
